REFLECTIONS would have been an exhibition by Laura Tilstra and Shannon Sinclair in March 2020 on the occasion of Photo +, cancelled due to COVID 19.

 

Both works deal with the question of whether digitality and the delusion of beauty have the potential to form a substitute religion

To what extent are women explained by socially shaped beauty ideals rights? What values and rites are in our own beauty cult with the concept of religion? What power does image circulation have when the culture of digitality takes on narcissistic features and these become normal? The reproduction and manipulability of standardized ideals of beauty and body images lead to a cult of hyperreality.

The exhibition shows where photographic and scenographic visualization meet and where they diverge.
